As the Covenant says, "Our world is in the midst of change." We all see it in new governments coming into the world and in new integrities coming forward in corporations and media. We feel it in our pocketbooks and in our level of trust with each other. We know it through our willingness to still our minds in contemplative meditation.

These changes have been forecast throughout the ages by those who understood the relationship between humanity and the universe we inhabit. This is why the School of Metaphysics is sponsoring a 20 hour, 12 minute meditation to ring in this New Year. Meditation has so many benefits, both for the individual meditator as well as large groups of people. Through meditation you will awaken to know your thoughts, and enjoy the calm, centeredness allowing you to think peaceably in any situation.

This weblog is a record of the meditation experiences and thoughts during this meditation. We invite you to meditate with us and share your thoughts as well.

On May 22, 2011, the deadliest tornado to hit the United States since 1947 – the seventh-deadliest single tornado in U.S. history, and 27th-deadliest in World history – carved a 6-mile path through the town of Joplin, Missouri on I-44 just 13 miles from the Oklahoma border just 120 miles from the Peace Dome.

When School of Metaphysics leaders heard about an initiative "to support the goodness behind grassroots community projects" by Tom's of Maine, they did not ask for money to build a much-needed headquarters building. They quietly determined to ask for funds to help turn their neighbors' misfortune into a blessing. They submitted a proposal to build the Joplin Peace Garden, a place to express gratitude and to honor the courage of the citizens of Joplin and the many volunteers whose lives were transformed through their generosity of service.

And so it happened that the people who are building a Healing Wall at the Peace Dome in the heart of the United States, are building a Garden for their neighbors in Joplin. Your vote to build the Joplin Peace Garden will make a difference for generations to come.

We know that our world is in the midst of change. Every day communities in the U.S. and abroad experience the effects of natural happenings – storms, earthquakes, volcanoes. Tornadoes have affected many U.S. cities this year, earthquakes are affecting countries around the world. Many lives are being transformed through these events. Compassion is rising, friendships are forged, hearts are restored, minds opened, and spirits renewed.

If you have a story worthy of telling, we invite you to do so here, in the Peace Dome.

– from the Universal Peace Covenant

Enter the world of those who gathered at the Peace Dome December 31, 2010 to welcome the New Year by reciting the Universal Peace Covenant 35 times over the course of 25 hours. Beginning at the Christmas Islands in the Pacific Ocean at 4:00 a.m. December 31st local time, Peace Ambassadors welcome the transition to a new year with the people in each time zone. Thus we create a wave of peace that “moves across the face of the earth.”

Join us in reading the Universal Peace Covenant wherever you are at midnight local time. Then read our thoughts springing from this year’s vigil.
