The Peace Mandala ...at the Peace Dome

It is estimated by the time
the mandala is complete
there will be close to
a million tiles, each representing
someone's concept of peace.

The first mandala tiles were enlaid during the Peace Dome dedication in October 2003. Since then hundreds of people have placed a tile with a specific thought of peace. Inspiration for the Peace Mandala came to Chicago designer Jay McCormick during a meditation. Those who travel to the Peace Dome for special performances or conferences are invited to commemorate the event by laying a tile. Once a year, children lay tiles for Peace Financiers, donors who support the Peace Dome and its grounds.
