Schedule of Monthly Lessons

Sunday, March 14th at 1 pm     Communication

“Peace is built through communication.  The open exchange of ideas is necessary for discovery, for well-being, for growth, for progress, whether within one person or among many.”  Universal Peace Covenant.
Learn how Saint Patrick of Ireland peacefully persuaded a whole culture to accept a new idea.  Ireland and Celtic Christianity will be the focus.


Saturday, April 24th at 10:30 am   Respect and Responsibility

“Peace and security are attained by those societies where the individuals work closely to serve the common good of the whole.” UPC
Earth Day is today.  Learn to be a steward of the Earth with the wisdom of Zorastrianism (Iran & India) and of the American writer, Dr. Suess.


Saturday, May 29th at 10:30 am   Compassion

“Peace is first a state of mind.”  UPC
The month of May is the time of Wesak, Gautama the Buddha’s birthday.   Learn more about the significance of this day and about the compassion of the Buddha.  Asia.


Saturday, June 26th at 10:30 am  Liberty and Self-Direction

“Self direction promotes inner peace and therefore leads to outer peace.  We vow to heal ourselves through forgiveness, gratitude and prayer.  We commit to causing each and every day to be a fulfillment of our potential both human and divine.” UPC
Juneteenth (June 19th) celebrates the end of slavery in the United States after the Civil War.  The focus is Africa and African-American culture.


Saturday, July 31st at 10:30 am The Present Moment

“Peace is an idea whose time has come.” UPC
Explore the meaning of 2012 and the end of the Mayan Calendar.  We will focus on Central America and the Mayan people, the keepers of time. 


Saturday, August 28th at 10:30 am  Surrender and Receptivity

“World peace begins within ourselves.  Arising from the spirit, peace seeks expression through the mind, heart, and body of each individual.” UPC
We will explore Islam, Sufism and the Muslim people of the Middle East and experience the sacredness of the whirling dervish.


Saturday, September 25th at 10:30 am  Forgiveness and Commitment

“We vow to heal ourselves through forgiveness, gratitude, and prayer.”
This month is Yom Kippur, the Jewish Day of Atonement.  Learn about Judaism and the Jewish culture.


Saturday, October 30th at 10:30 am   Balance and Harmony

“Peace is more than the cessation of conflict…” “Peace is active…” UPC
This is the start of winter, the time of darkness, for the Chinese, the Celts, and other peoples.  Learn about light and darkness, yin and yang, and the peaceful movement of the aggressive and receptive principles of creation.  We will focus on Taoism and the Latin American Catholic holy day, El Dia de Los Muertos.


Saturday, November 27th at 10:30 am   Vision

“Peace is achieved by those who fulfill their part of a greater plan.” UPC
The Haudenesaunee, which means, “People of the Long House,” are part of the Iroquois Nation Confederacy.  Learn about their link to the Constitution of the United States.

“Peace is the breath of our spirit.  It wells up from within the depths of our being to refresh, to heal, to inspire.” UPC
