| Universal Hour of Peace 2011 Discover local events throughout the Midwest | | Every December 31st at 11:30 PM across the midnight hour to January 1st at 12:30 AM in every time zone on the planet, people spend this hour, the Universal Hour of Peace, dedicated to bringing peace to life in their own, determined way. The Universal Hour of Peace has been proclaimed by Governors and Mayors across the United States of America as well as heads of states around the world.

Create affirmations, light candles, and listen to talks by community and faith leaders on how to be a force for good in the world. Starting at 9:00 p.m., this alcohol-free celebration culminates at midnight with a reading of the Universal Peace Covenant. People around the globe will be joining in a synchronized wave of peace by reading this covenant as the New Year commences where ever they are.

The Universal Hour of Peace was initiated in October of 1995 on the 50th anniversary of the United Nations. Since 1996, people around the world have been welcoming the New Year with thoughts of peace as part of a movement organized by the School of Metaphysics. DESCRIPTION: People from the local community interested in expressing ways in which they can individually manifest peace in their daily lives are invited to gather together at the School of Metaphysics Dallas. Attendees will be encouraged to write, draw, or paint their individual expressions of peace and time will be given for presentations of their creations. At midnight the Universal Peace Covenant will be read around the peace pole erected in the etheric temple in front of the school.

Universal Hour of Peace Event
What: 2nd Annual New Years Eve Peace Walk and Peace Prayer Vigil, Meditation, and Food Following

Where: From Fountain Square in Cincinnati across the Purple People Bridge to the Peace Bell in Newport, KY and back. Prayer Vigil at the Joyful Life Yoga Studio 1601 Main St.

Bring in the New Year in peaceful thought and action with the Cincinnati School of Metaphysics! Please join us as we walk together, in Peace, from Fountain Square in Cincy across the Ohio River to the Peace Bell in Newport, KY and back.
The Universal Peace Covenant will be read at Fountain Square at 7:00 pm prior to our contemplative adventure. The walk is beautiful and serene, especially across the shimmering Ohio River with our Queen City in the backdrop. The River is a good listener for you to call out your intentions for the upcoming year:) The weather and company will be perfect, just dress warm!
Stay awhile with the good vibes for the Universal Hour of Peace! A Candle lit Peace Vigil & Guided Meditation, Healthy Food and Chocolate will follow starting at 10:30 PM to celebrate the Universal Hour of Peace (11:30pm-12:30am). We will celebrate the Universal Hour of Peace by reciting prayers of peace given by individuals in the community. We will read them aloud and light a single candle for each prayer recited. The purpose for this is to send each prayer of peace into the world and strengthen the collective vision of peace for humanity. All are welcome to participate in this event and we will conclude with a guided meditation. Peace Prayers are now being collected. We will have activities following this were one can be apart of understanding that peace is what we here to learn and give to each other. DESCRIPTION: A lecture, "What Peace Means to Me," will be given at the School of Metaphysics. Those in attendance will learn what peace is and articulate and write down their understanding of it for permanent, artistic display on the front porch of the School of Metaphysics in Des Moines, IA. From 8:30-11:30 PM, meditation will be observed with reading of the Universal Peace Covenant every half hour (please enter and leave the meditation experience during these intervals). During the actual Universal Hour of Peace, the Peace Covenant will be taken to the streets and people will be invited to read the Covenant with School of Metaphysics students at midnight on the western steps of the Iowa State Capital building. | | watch for additional postings | | |
